A Clockwork Eye by Sux2BeMe A Clockwork Eye by Sux2BeMe
This is an exploration into the actual workings of a real eye, if a real eye were made from clockwork. Muscles are represented by gears, springs, cams, and levers. The actual iris is replaced with a dual aperture, and the veins replaced with tubing.

I should really start working in color.

Why, thank you. This was originally done just to be done, but it turned into the concept work for the digital version which you also saw. Also the last piece I drew before discovering that pencils have different weights... :)

Yay! This finally hit 200 favorites!

Not bad for a drawing using a couple mechanical pencils and a sheet of printer paper.

Thanks everyone for all the :+fav:s...the support is my inspiration to do better and draw more.

From the title it reminded me of "A Clockwork Orange" where his eyes are being forced open to watch violent things. Although this is entirely different. This is creative and ingenious! Reminds me of some steampunk effect.

I think using the word 'clockwork' in a title can have that effect...but I hadn't put that exact connection together before.

Perhaps I should try doing that clockwork still life bowl of fruit after all...but no oranges, because I don't wanna get sued.

Very cool. I wrote a story a while back that had a man with clockwork eyes, and this is kind of how I imagined them.

I dont know. Maybe if it were brass and copper tones. Otherwise i think this would lose some of its effect.

Granted, I'd like to have done this in color...I just haven't really graduated to working with color just yet. Whole new set of skills there.

That line actually started out as a joke that appealed to my roommate. The only flaw in the joke was I couldn't figure out a word that started with "K" to replace the word "company."

We are really silly and immature people, here.

Thanks!

The serial number is a bit of a weird one...originally, I was going to just use that as my signature, and the numbers were going to be the date I finished the drawing.

Instead, those numbers are just my birthday.

I can't totally take credit for the idea, since it's actually based on two concepts I saw in movies that I combined...one was the cyclops' eyes in The City of Lost Children, the other was Geordi's eyes in one of the Star Trek movies.
