Clockwork Eye 2.0 by Sux2BeMe Clockwork Eye 2.0 by Sux2BeMe
Since my Clockwork Eye was my first piece of 2013, and my most popular, I decided to make it my last piece as well.

This is also my first purely digital piece in over 10 years, and my first ever using Cinema 4D.

Edited once...for color corrections and modifications to teensy-weensy itty-bitty details that hardly anyone will notice apart from myself. Kudos if you happen to notice the differences from the old to the new.

Over the top is's taking a very long time because I'm going WAY overboard on details.

Stunning, absolutely stunning! :wow: :iconbravoplz:
Great work.
Since there is a drawing version, I have to say the I like more the engine details you put there - mainly the diaphragm style you used there.

Thank you.

It's my intention to, probably once a month, address each of my illustrations as concept work. THe eye was just first because the illustration got the best response.

The one thing I haven't really addressed yet, which will be coming soon, is that I matched the illustration for the composition. SInce this is a 3D model, I'm going to be making minor alterations and rendering a better-composed angle of it. Version 2.1 is coming soon.
Amazing :) I like all those small wheels and the amount of details you put into them.
But perhaps red would be a better colour choice for the green cables to represent the blood vessels.

Thanks! And I agree. I've actually altered the model already, but rendering takes about 4-5 hours on my machine. Since it's not super powerful, I can't do anything else (as in my mouse and keyboard even get jumpy) while it's rendering.
Oh such long rendering times sound really bad o:

Eventually, I'll get a job that pays well enough for me to afford a computer that knocks that down a bit.

But yes, to render a very realistic glass of water takes around 20 minutes at screen resolution. It's pretty ridiculous.

Another reason to redo the eye is those green tubes are all to subsurface scattering, it's the texture element that causes the biggest holdup in rendering times. If I made them something like copper, reflective and curved, they'd still render 100 times faster.
